">Wesleyan University was founded in 1831,, by Methodist leaders and Middletown citizens.. Instruction began with 48 students of varying ages, the president, three professors, and one tutor. Today Wesleyan offers instruction in 47 departments and 44 major fields of study and awards the bachelor of arts and graduate degrees.Wesleyan University IS Graduate Liberal Studies Program offers students a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies. Wesleyan also grants other graduate degrees through its Master of Arts, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy programs. Wesleyan University stands ready - with the resources and the passion - to equip future generations of learners with skills they will need to meet the challenges of our rapidly changing world.University has cooperative programs with a number of high schools that allow seniors to enroll in university classes for credit and become familiar with the university experience. Faculty, staff and students have opportunities to explore the place of religious beliefs and practices within all academic disciplines and co-curricular activities. Our general education program requires that students take at least one course in religious studies. In addition, Wesleyan has a popular major and minor in Religious Studies.
